Black sapphire with asterism
Black sapphire with asterism 8.00 ct
Asterism in sapphires is a rare optical effect, also known as "star". It looks like a 6-pointed star (less often a 12-pointed star) on the surface of a polished cabochon with a properly oriented crystal, appearing when a ray of light hits the surface of the stone. If the light is scattered, or the crystal is incorrectly oriented during processing, then the star will not appear. In this 8.00-carat black sapphire specimen, the asterism appears as a 6-pointed star. In the photo and video, the cabochon was shot under spotlighting. Before buying, we recommend that you take a look at the stone in person to see how this specimen of black sapphire with asterism looks in different lighting conditions.
