Star-effect sapphire
Star-effect sapphire 9.07 ct

The star effect is characteristic of some gem-quality corundum deposits. It is caused by the presence of thin rutile needles, and when the crystal is correctly oriented during processing, it gives rise to a beautiful 6-pointed star on the polished surface of the cabochon.
It looks especially impressive on a dark, almost black sapphire, as it gains brightness due to contrast. This sapphire cabochon is interesting because the zoning is located along with the elongation of the oval shape of the stone.
